new HOB overflow questions

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I ordered a HOB overflow the other day. At first the neighbors probably thought I was crazy, yelling about how this thing sucks as I was trying to get it primed, however after I figured that out, I'm pretty happy with it. I was disappointed at first seeing a huge air bubble in the U tube, though in about 60s the flow through that tube increased so much that the bubble just flowed out. Mine I think is like yours, in the sense that it has one 1" output. Putting another U tube won't help with the flow. You need to have a dual output, or a larger diameter output to increase the flow.

A question though (not to steal the thread). Has anyone ever put up a 'screen' style thing in front of the teeth of the overflow? My flakes keep getting sucked into the overflow so the fish only have like 5s to eat their food before its gone! :(

Get a feeder ring:D

Flakes will be totally consumed otherwise.

so i am working on it ... and it doesnt seem to work ... i dont know if there isnt enough flow going INTO the overflow via the U tube... or if the OUTPUT from the overflow isn't large enough

no matter what i do, i cant get the water level to stabilize with the overflow and the tank ... the chamber on the outside is drained too quickly ...
and yet once i turn on the sump pump, the tank continues to rise until i have to turn it off

this means i need another U tube, right? so that there is enough water going in, so that the water level is equal in the tank and in the overflow?
