If you notice most of these fish get huge. All have been in the hobby at one time or another. The $15 beani on Aquabid are coming out a pond on an abandoned fish farm in Florida that bred them years ago and no one would buy them because they got to big and killed everything. When they became "The fish" recently someone went and checked and they were still in there breeding. In 6 months (or less) they will be $5 fish.

Really? Is there more info on this? I've only been in the hobby about 12-15 years, but with everything I read I understood beani was historically high in demand but low in supply. You seem to be describing the opposite situation - and maybe that's the case - I have a relative short history with the hobby. I saw a Cal fellow named Joe made a couple Mazatlan runs 15-18 months or so ago and beani started popping up in various supplier lists. This abandoned FL fish farm scenario is intriguing.

Not sure if it is around the same farm, but it sounds the same, there are wild dovi in Florida as well. Around some of these iresponsible farms there are many desirable fish.

At one point in the 70's there was a population of Beani near me in Northern California. Apparently wiped out in a cold snap. But they were here for 4-5 years.

I hear there are some absolute monster dovii like 24-30" in the same area youre talking about.

We all hear the same thing, we will see soon.

I have some dovi growing out in a private pond in Mexico. If I can get by the Zetas I may have some nice fish in a few years.

It is true that they were around for a while and no one showed interest. I have my doubts about the mystery pond. The demand for the fish has been there for several years. I find it suspect that just in the last year they came out of the pond. I know that Rusty brought back wild a while back and has since sent fry to a couple dealers. I got mine from him as well...all F0...not from the "pond".

i don't know if we're talking realistic here or just pipe dreaming, but i'd love to have a platinum grammodes or tiger motaguense... NOW we're talking :D

but if we're talking about reality land, yeah i guess we've been pretty spoiled in the last year or so if beani are now $10 fish and are readily available via aquabid...

When you say 'suspect' care to elaborate? I'd like to know all there is to know before purchasing. Thanks Mo.

Nope. Other than stating the obvious. They've been in demand for at least three or four years...and all of a sudden someone remembers they have a pond full.

Bottom line is that they are in the hobby. Nice fish. Get them.
