The $15 beani on Aquabid are coming out a pond on an abandoned fish farm in Florida that bred them years ago and no one would buy them because they got to big and killed everything. When they became "The fish" recently someone went and checked and they were still in there breeding. In 6 months (or less) they will be $5 fish.
Really? Is there more info on this? I've only been in the hobby about 12-15 years, but with everything I read I understood beani was historically high in demand but low in supply. You seem to be describing the opposite situation - and maybe that's the case - I have a relative short history with the hobby. I saw a Cal fellow named Joe made a couple Mazatlan runs 15-18 months or so ago and beani started popping up in various supplier lists. This abandoned FL fish farm scenario is intriguing.
