what kind of africans do you have with him... maybe they are nipping him... i know africans nip almost all their tank mates.. you may not have to wait 4 years.. what happened now is his growth has slowed down..and before he was growing like a weed..so once they get to a certain size its growth is hardly noticed.. your doing great with BGK's that size..

thanx....i have 1-bumble bee, 1-firemouth, 1-kenyi, 1-yellow lab, 1-ruben red peocock, 1-not sure as i saved it, 2- hybrid babies from a previous tank spawn, 6-hybrid babies from a recent spawn, 1-syno cat, 1-ropefish, and 1- silver gar. i also had them from 3", they were with my aro but to make room for my tsns i had to put them in the african tank. the fin bites are from the africans cause this bgk picks fights with them. it bites the africans in its cave and chases them out. when the african turns to fight my bgk stands it's ground! i have had the 2 bgks together since i got them so i know that they are not fighting aswell.

The problem is ...nipping starts and all is still okay... but eventually it wears down the knife and stress sets in and then other health issues become a factor.. i don't think it is the other knife either ... i blame it completely on the africans... yes they both are trying to take over the same cave or hiding place... and eventually somebody will lose...so please watch carefully because the day may be coming up that you will need to separate your BGK's from that african tank.. the only other fish that can take a tank load of africans is a synodontis cats... plecos and other slower moving fish just cannot compete.. so i hope it works out for you... and no i only feed non-live food.. everything live is a introduction to disease unless you quarenteen and or raise them yourself... mine eats cichlid pellets, krill, shrimp and blood worms..

don't worry i will watch them...they only fight sometimes 90% there ok most of my africans are adults and not that agressive anymore just have 1 or 2 with attitudes now...the nipping that i have noticed only came after the knive bit the african and it's not that bad but if it gets worse i will seperate them i adore knives so i wont let anything go to far. if one a-hole african doesn't "grow up" soon he lunch to my aro or cat if he kills one...for sale if it makes a knife get sick. but i will watch them close. thanx for your concern though. i saw the pics of your knife again and it looks very angry.

all my feeders are quarentined for q.a. i also have a gn pleco in the tank with them all. i had a common in there before the gn but it outgrew the tank and now is in my big tank. in general my africans are "laid back" compared to some i have seen.
