New Hystrix Pup?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
100% pure hystrix.
Does the pup have a small yolk sac underneath or did so at birth? The body is slightly translucent giving the impression this could be something different, this pup has come slightly early that's all, feeding it could be a problem but fingers crossed.

Good luck, its very pretty.

It definitely still has a yolk sac. I'm a little nervous about it as well. I'm keeping my fingers crossed and hoping for the best.

I would say hystrix too, although not many spots over the eyes and pattern on top of the tail is different. What does the other pup look like? And when did she give birth? Congrats !!!

spotfin spotfin have your pups looked like this at birth?
Short answer is no.
Still looking at the banding on the tail, that is confusing. Mine have distinct, solid black bands while yours has the bands outlined in white. The pattern on the body sure looks hystrix.

I would guess hystrix. Maybe her pattern hasnt fully come in since she was born early, very nice pup though.

Well the other one was killed unfortunately. This pup is a male. I just think it looks different. Interested in the growth. Still looks ok today.

The above post shows 3 pups exactly the same as the one in this thread. These were 3 of my premature hystrix babies that all sadly died.

Hi moosemj,
About 2 days, yours is slightly more developed than mine were, only by a few days but possibly enough to make the difference between life and death.
Because this pup of yours is so small I would try it on live bloodworm as a first food, something I never use in all honesty but there is always exceptions, in the case of this little pup it might be the only thing that will coax it into taking its first food.
You will find the next pregnancy will generally go full term, the first time can be dodgy with new mums, especially hystrix.

I have my fingers crossed for you.

All the best!
