Taksan: Ocellatus has a good point.

My question to you though is, would you be able to do a DIY viewing pannel for your tank? With a little research from someone who works with fiberglass professionally, there should be a way to install a good sized viewing window, don't you agree? And it would not cost you 2k to 3k more. The cost would only be around $300.00 to $500.00 for materials at the most, I would think. The labor cost you'd be saving if you did it yourself, would be a real huge savings. Maybe you could barter goods with a person who knows how to work with fiberglass, if you do not know the in's and out's about fiberglass. I would think it would be worth a try if you're wanting to put in a viewing window.

Think about it and let us know what you decide. You've really sparked my interest now. :D

Perhaps I could but I've no experience with it. I'll have a close look at it when it arrives.

Sounds like a capital idea. But as I suggested above, maybe you could barter goods with someone who knows the ins and outs with getting you set up with a viewing window. But I'll leave that up for you to decide on how to accomplish that. In the mean time, you might want to see about researching some information in through your local library and see if they can help you find some books on the basics of working with fiber glass. Who knows? Maybe you'll stumble on instructional information on how to install a window yourself. All it takes is a bit of desire and determination to want to put a viewing window in your tank. I guess it really boils down to how badly you really want one installed. Good luck and keep us posted on your final decission.

Looked into the window and it can be done but will require 2 x 92" panels rather then 1 across the front and additional top bracing with glassed in wood.
I think I'll go the window.

This is a very cool idea and pretty much where I'm heading with my tanks. Just I'm renovating my entire house with plans to include some built in tanks or ponds (all a bit up in the air ATM) similar to this in size. You've really got me thinking about my approach re the how to of it all, this is alot more ready to go (though set in size), but I'd really need viewing area and I've had minimal exerience with fibre glass working, might be time for a refresher course.
I was reading your comment on your heating of this sized set-up, this is well above anything I presently have and all my fish are in 4x18x18 or 4x2x2 atm and would appreciate something larger. Anyway I'm wondering if you/someone could give me a few pointers re. how to heat these type of set-ups....cheers
My fish would be even more grateful!! #@!% clown knives grow quick!!!!

I just heat my current pond with a 3kw Electro pond heater.

I wrapped it in foam insulation and cover it with thick closed call foam and its not really that expensive as its inside my shed which is also insulated.
