i bought a beautiful piece of driftwood from fellow mfk'er manzman. this piece is huuuuge almost 5 feet long and almost 2 feet high.. i used heavy slate rocks to hold it down which was doing the job for 2 or 3 days until one night the driftwood slipped from under the rocks and floated but the rocks hit the bottom of the tank so hard i expected it to break, so out came the heavy rocks....so while being dragged through the local target store by my girlfriend i pass these white curtain/tension rods made for small windows. the rod extends from 18" to 24" and has rubber "feet" on both ends. At $1.99 apice i thought perfect i bought 2. i rushed home positioned the driftwood in place opened up the rods to the width of the tank and placed both rods perfectly over the driftwood. its ugly with the rods in there but its doing the job until the wood is waterlogged.

the first pic is of the wood floating around
the second pic is the rods before going into the tank
the pic rods holding down the driftwood

my tank is 180gallons and i'm waiting for my lfs to get my order of natural gravel next week (i hate bare bottom tanks)

looks good man. the driftwood is fresh. the only thing i would be worried about is those rods rusting. not sure if it would send off toxins but im sure you looked into that. looks good bro.

I'de worry about the tension of the rods popping a seal... O.O... Nice wood though! :cool-1:

If your talking about the seals of the actual tank, the rods aren't wedged in tight enough to do anything but hold the wood down. Glad you like the driftwood though

Wow, that's amazing!!! Beautiful.

I would LOVE to be able to find such a large piece of DW for sale over here in HK... just a shame most people have tanks less than 24" wide on average to to find anything bigger than say 2' long is next to impossible...

But i have to say, very clever move using those rods to hold down the wood... although i have a feeling its going to take a long time for it to completely soak through and stay on the bottom on its own...

thats nifty man I like that idea, I have also tried weighing down driftwood in the past by positioning rocks on top of it, and you know what, it usually looks worse than those curtain rods. Good call man!
