I think I'd be worried about putting extra pressure on the seams of the tank and the glass. That's an awesome piece of wood, though. If you're going with smaller fish, I'd be weighing it down. You're most likely okay, but I'm not so sure I would want to worry about it risking the integrity of the tank.
