where is your rio submersible pump located?

Im assuming in your sump?
If so, no problem as there wouldn't be sand in the sump.

If its in the tank, use the suction cups to place them harder, wait for the sand to settle down before turning the pump on

I dont have sump, its in the main tank :) snction cups?? if i put substrate will the dirt of my bichir still be sip by the rio pump?

Why not place the pump a bit higher. Or when you get a new tank. Drill it and use an over flow instead of a pump and use the pump to suck the water back to the tank.

If i put the pump a bit higher does it can still zip the dirt of the bichir's at the bottom??

Doubt so, thats is why you have to vac the gravel about once every 2 weeks or so

so my rio pump will be useless?? is there an alternative way?

Use an overflow. Drill your tank and place that pump in the sump. Google aquarium sump for more details or go to the DIY section or filter section.

wait im kinda confused. Isnt the rio pump suppose to feed water into your trickle filter?

rio pump on my tank used for both purpose:

feed water in my tank and sip out dirt... thats why my 1st layer is all wool...

It's cheaper probabably. Better pm peewee also a bichir keeper that live in the Philippines. He can give you a better estimate as I'm in Canada and have no clue how much will it cost you. Or go to mypalhs and ask them.
