New Istlanum Pair

Ok, i only started that id thread to see how people would sex my female. but here goes their official pair thread. I know it says istlanum pair on the title but i havent actually paired them out just yet. and from the looks of things it could be a lil more challenging than i thought lol. So here we go, and i would like to start off by saying a big thank you to Nemisis for selling me his pair The male is around 8" and female 6" in these first set of pics they are still divided. the second set will be my first try at pairing them out its really hard to watch them test eachother because the whole time im all worried about them doing damage to eachothers fins. I do plan o breeding these to if they permit it. I am also considering hitting up Gage for a couple more females for my smaller male and just in case this female doesnt except the male.

Thanks Forrest Ive still got my fingers crossed. And yes it took me alot of searchin to find what i was looking for in a pair of Istlanums. I ordered a few from Gage that im gonna grow out to have some backup females so i can breed if this female doesnt want too.im not gonna force anything cause worse case scenario i have a show pair

I know you've bred a lot of fish and it's much easier to sex fish when you have them in person, and I also looked up some of the older photos Nemesis posted and it does sort of look like a female, but I really have a hard time believing that that is a female.

Especially looking at this-

Hopefully it is female.

Beautiful indeed....good luck with breeding them. Seems strange to me that they are opposite sex and look so similar...but you see them much more closely than I of course.

Thank you everyone. And yes good point modestman, I too noticed that yesterday with the vent. So looks like ill have to pull and vent to be sure. I'll be a lil upset cause I've been hunting for a female forever It seems like. But at the same time these two are very nice either way... So I cant really get that mad. I also just placed an order with Gage to get a group of Istlanums so I have a couple females.
