Thought I would throw up a couple shots of my new Jag. Ever since I put a female con with him a few days ago his color has really popped, which I think is exciting, but the wife and kids don't seem to care too much about it. I bought him at around 4-5 inches and have had him for a few weeks. Handsome little dude, can't wait until he adds a few inches so I can get him in the big tank. I'm a little worried though, the con has been in the tank for about 4 days and ever since they both have been busy digging pits in the gravel. I know convicts are notorious perverts so now I'm worried she's seducing him.

He must have been a fish that someone turned in because he was separated from the rest of the jags, they had him in a larger tank with two other large cichlids that I can't recall. All of the rest of the manganese were about an inch at best and living in their own tank. He was pretty ugly at the time, kind of beat up from scrapping and super dark in coloration. I wasn't really even there to buy a fish, just decided to pick him up because I always wanted a male and from what I could make out he was beginning to show his mature pattern enough that I could sex him. (All of the little guys look alike to me.) Either way he has really come around since he made it to my tank, eats like a beast and is way less skittish. Like I said his coloration has become much lighter and now he's showing off that awesome pattern these guys have. I'm enjoying taking care of this little orphan, he's healing up very quickly and has shown some personality. Best thing about the deal was that he was priced the same as the little guys, a steal at 3.99. Here's to impulsive fish buying.

Sounds like a healthy fish, I'm glad you could nurse that little guy back to health. Keep us updated.

Thanks guys. Hey does anybody know if it's normal for these guys to just lay around at the bottom of the tank the majority of the time. Dudes lazy as hell. He's real active when it's feeding time but rarely swims around much during the rest of the day. He will chase the convict a bit here and there, but half heartedly, and basically spends the rest of the day with his mouth open, kind of like he's breathing heavy. I think he's turning into garfield.

It will take him a while to get his territory and then all he will want to do is protect it
