New Jaguar Cichlid!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
maybe do some research, you bought a huge fish for your first one. What size tank do you have or filters? Feeding might not be the most important questions, fairly simple answers there.

I think your going to love your jaguar. I inherited one at 6" from my brother when his tank sprung a leak 4 years ago. It's 12" now and is a digging fool. Definitely go with small pea sized gravel, driftwood always looks nice, and a large rock or two. (Large enough he/she cant move them)

bigger tank, more filtration.

guppies are fine, my jag loved them and frozen blood worms... but please quarantine them first, guppies are very good for your fish unlike goldfish that have very little nutritional value........set up your tank with lots of driftwood and fake plants. jags will dig up and kill your live plants.

cool thanks for the info, so far my jag seems to be doing good! my jag seems a little lonely so i am planning to pick up a breeding partner and a pleco. Would the breeding pair kill the pleco?

:iagree:

enjoy... that's a monster you got there

i dont know if you said this but what size is your tank? and if your wanting a breeding pair your best bet would be to get a group of small juveniles and bring them up together, wait for a pair to form then find homes for the others or return to store if they will buy them back, but you will most likely need a 125 to house the pair comfortably as both sexes get over 1' and you want your female to have room to get away if she needs to

ok thats fine but if you want a pair then go ahead and get group of juvies now you will have much better luck forming a pair this way, than if you wait for your single jag to get bigger first and add another jag then

dude listen 55 will be fine for a year.! JUST OVER FILTER.
By over filter i mean a big canister for your 55 or 2 AC110s.
Again do not feed any feeders at this point.. note: its just my view that feeders are to risky + fish become to used to it and stop eating pellets etc...
if you want a pair get a bunch of juvies and wait till they pair off like someone above said.
Oh and are you sure you want a Female?
because once you have a pair, you cannot add any other fish bro.
Anything that enters the tank will be shredded.
