Got a new Jardini in the house today. He looks amazing and is a voracious eater, plus he is on pellets. After a quick float and release he has been actively swimming around the tank all day. Have to say his colors are outstanding and can't wait for him to develop.

Now when I do water changes how much should I do and how often? 10%/20% everyday/ every other day. I don't mind doing them and I figure smaller more frequent ones should be easier on him.

Now to a few pics sorry for hte glare but these were 20 minutes after beign released in the tank and his colors have improved more as the day has gone on. He spent a mere 12 hours in shipping via FedEX express. Thanks to Nate (exoticfishpgh) on Aquabid and AsiaTropicals here on MFK. Nate was quick to answer my questions and offer advice plus made a late drop so he was in shipping for a little as possible.

Beautiful fish! I can't wait to pick one up myself. How big is he?

Good lookin' Jar

Water changes on a planted tank are hard to judge. What are your nitrate levels normally? On my heavily stocked planted 110g I only change about 20% every other week. My nitrates are normally around 10ppm.

Typically around 20 by end of the week but I don't usually monitor it as I usually jsut do a 50% water change each week. I also am thinking of placing a bit of Pothos in the overflow boxes to help keep the Nitrates down. The plants are all pretty undemanding plants and I run super low light on this setup.

nice jar!

i do daily 10% water changes
& every saturday i do a 40-50%
water change... depending on
what my water param reads.

Seems to be settling in well. I do see a bit of fin damage/ rot on his tail fin. Is this something I should be concerned with? I have been doing daily ~30g water changes on about 240g of water. Today I am doing a 25% change. I am temp acclimating the water and dosing Prime equal to the tank volume. Is this something I should be worried about.

Is this something that has developed since in your tank or did it have it previously?
