New Jardini in the house.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
wondering if I should hit the tank with some melafix and raise the temps a few degrees?

Tank is currently at 80

He is eating Hikari Foodsticks, Crickets, and a few bloodworms he steals from the rainbows when I feed them.

His fin edges were a bit torn upon arrival but seems to have gotten worse over the last 2 days.

Hope it's not the same thing that killed your previous jardini

Me either, water is pristine

Ammonia - 0
NitRITE- 0
NitRATE- 5-10

I've been watching him like a hawk to watch for anything out of the ordinary. He seems to still be eating great. After my water change I ran down the street to the LFS and grabbed a bottle of Melafix and bumped the tank up to 82 F. After 10 minutes of adding the Melafix he seemed to color up more and became super active. I will keep this up and follow the daily doses for the next week or 2 and hope I caught this before it could turn worse.

I am looking at getting another UV and am really looking at an 18 watt Emperor Aquatics with a Wiper as it has union fittings and I can run the 3rd leg of my return pump with a gate valve to control the flow through it. Only problem is I won't get it till late next week as I will be working and need to order and get it here first. Any thoughts on the Emporer ones also was looking at the Aqua UV series with a wiper. I have used the Coralife and Current ones in the past but want something better this time around.

Figured I would give a small update. Day 2 of 25% water change and another shot of Melafix, he has been more and more active and been feeding like a hog. I think he has eaten more today then the last 4 days he has been here downing Crickets, 8 or so Sera Aro Pellets, a few Hikari Foodsticks, some bloodworms and more crickets. His color seems to be improving and the tail damage doesn't seem to have gotten any worse. I figure as long as he is eating like this I will keep feeding him 3-5 times a day with small amounts.

Hoping this may jsut be from the stress involved in shipment aand settling in to the new tank. Once we reach the 3 week mark I will feel much better so a bit over 2 weeks to go for settle in time. Hoping to get a UV in the next couple of weeks and get everything all up and running.

Well being the curious me I think I found the source of the problem. Lots of organic matter under the plants and the rock work in the tank. So after several water changes, lots of back breaking work and about 4 hours of my day the tank is currently running bare bottom. Have a 13g bag full of plants, driftwood has been scrubbed and is out on the deck drying out along with the rocks.

Thinking I will do lots less rock and plants and possibly do a slate tile bottom so I don't see the glass. I plan on eliminating most of the wood I think and will just use a few select pieces of rock and attach my plants to them. This should allow the bottom to stay spotless and super clean.

I'll update some pics tomorrow, after redoign the tank and going sparce on the rescape and planting plus making it super easy to keep everything clean the tank is going the right way again. Also on the plus side is the Jar has almsot completely recolored after getting all teh crap out that I would have never seen before and several large water chagnes to clear the tank out. I'm going to keep the temp bumped up and finish the round of Melafix but in the long run this should be a stunning tank as it gorws out.
