I just got this new jardini, and its color is way different than most jardinis I've seen. It's about 7-8". It almost looks platinum, but I doubt that the place I bought it from would make the mistake of selling me a platinum jardini at the price of a regular one. Any input?

I can get more photos if anyone needs them to help identify.

I apologize for the dirty glass...

It's on light substrate. Even so, some jars don't get dark. Could be stress?

Its probably due to light substrate or white tank treatment it'll darken down once its settled in and ate all those Malawi feeders ;):D btw it'll make those disappear pretty quickly

All the cichlids are too big for it to eat right now. I've been hoping that by adding the cichlids months in advance, giving them time to get cozy and grow, that they'll turn out okay. Right now they're all growing rapidly, so hopefully they get close to full grown before the jardini does. I know it's been done before, so fingers crossed on that one lol

As for the color, I'm starting to think it's not stress. It's been in the tank for over 12 hours now, and doesn't seem stressed at all. I am starting to see very very very faint golden stripes on it's tail, and very very very light green coloring on the top of it's back, but for the most part it seems colorless. I'll give it a few days and see what happens

Yup, U can say bye bye to those Africans...Trust me & Evz.. :D

the Africans will get hammered , I bet hes chasing them around that tank after two weeks max (once settled in) the cichlids don't get big enough even maxed out a lab is say 6" and a jardini 24" so of course its gona end up a snack :D
When you say its been done before , have you seen this in person or videos ? Because long term malawis won't stand a chance in a jardini tank , my current jar has got a 7" dovii worried and stuck in a pipe and that would wipe out a Malawi tank
Just keep your eye in things but my opinion is your gona need another setup for Africans

I've seen a couple set ups in person with jardinis and africans, and tons with silvers and africans. From what I've picked up, a lot of it is dependent on the individual fish and their personality. I'm hoping that by adding the fish in the order that I did, and by having plenty of structure towards the bottom of the tank, that I'll be able to avoid issues. But, theres still a pretty good chance that things will go south, so I'm going to be keeping a close eye on everyones behavior.
For now, I'm just trying to keep all their bellies full, and maybe after awhile they'll all recognize each other as tank mates and not as predator/prey

A Jardini would try to say "FISH ARE FRIENDS...FISH ARE FRIENDS...FISH ARE FRIENDS...Then its like...FISH ARE FOOD...FISH ARE FOOD...FISH ARE FOOD...and Yummy! :P

The problem your going to have is you've only got one apex predator the jardini , the rest are just colourful herb eating snacks .
I'd love to see this work out for you as it would be awesome but imo its a little optimistic, keep us posted on how he gets on.
Your jar could be stressed from the high ph levels in your water if its an existing Malawi setup , what's your ph testing at ?
