Id have to look into it the idea sounds good but in my other tank I put another cichlid in with my ram and they knocked the hell out of each other. Wouldnt they do the same?
I very much doubt it, not at that size.
Look at lots of images to get up to speed sexing JD and then pick a nice male from one store then go to another store be pic a female to avoid in breeding and start your own line.
You could always source a gold or blue JD for the group.
Maybe just go for 1 male with her if you want. In the wild a male controls a group of females I believe.
This video shows the colour difference in the cheeks.
Sorry by that size do you mean the tank or the JDs if I got more that size? Wouldnt they end up fighting as they got older because there isnt really any hiding spaces in the tank for a larger fish?
Thanks for the video! Those fish are crazy colourful id love some like that!
I meant the JD, I don't think you'll have any issues with a pair. JD are quite mellow in my experience with them, I have a 5-6" gold male in my 300g and he is very chilled. I've kept many others over the years and although the don't take any crap they never seem to instigate any serious aggression.
Even in the tanks in the stores there is barely ever a ripped fin.
Nice! I would have to buy quite a few JDs in hopes of finding a pair wouldnt I? If I could get 2 without there being trouble that would be good. Would a pair need places to hide from each other?
I would think the tank would be ok tbh.
Buy a male and try it. , Usually with cichlids people buy 6+ and wait for a pair to form, with it being harems maybe you could attempt to buy a male and female to up your chances.
Stranger things have happened tho than you adding a male and them pairing.
