Prepare for fun. JDs rock. Mine is a hair under 6" now and I've had him for 7 months. The rate of color development varies from fish to fish. Check the pics of mine in my gallery. His blue is coming in really good now.

coming along nicely I'd put him on a very dark substrate with a dark background and his colors will look a lot nicer as he grows.

thanks Jason_S , he's in a growout right now, very bare, purple and white gravel with a pvc 3 way tube as his home, when he gets large enough not to be swallowed i'm going to try putting him with my oscar who is very mild
