Hi everyone!

This is my first post here on the forum and I'm very impressed with the resources available! I have a 55 gallon that I am dedicating to a jack dempsey. I have had him for approximately 3 days. I have 5 giant danios in there as well, which I have a question about. Should I keep them in there to use as dither fish, or would I be better off taking them out? I know once he's larger they probably won't work, but I don't want to stress him out when he's small. He is eating normally, but he is extremely shy about coming out. Will he become more outgoing once he is more accustomed to his tank?

Many thanks in advance!

Should actually work long term. Those danios are pretty fast. Compared to other CA cichlids they're actually pretty timid but they should come out more once they're comfortable. Mine is super laid back.

Side note, everyone loves pics =P share!

LOL... soon as I read it, I thought of a thread where the only ones who would love the pics would be the ones who posted them. Everyone viewing the pics would be getting their ire worked up.

:eek:Show Us Your Filthiest Tanks:eek:
:eek:Show Us Your Most Beat Up Fish:eek:

My mind works in suoiretsym ways.

+1^^^^^ What he said... just give him a good varied diet and he'll try whoopin on those danios soon enough. Then he'll eventuall stop trying.

Sorry I was so excited I forgot the pics. Here it (not sure on gender) is! I originally wanted an electric blue, but i decided i wanted a more natural fish.

I am currently feeding it the tiny new life spectrum sinking pellets, and a variety of frozen foods (beefheart, bloodworms, brine shrimp). He is still hiding behind a fake plant and rock, but he is eating well. Once he's bigger i'll introduce the hikari cichlid gold into his diet along with cichlid flake, and the larger new life spectrum pellets.

I have one other question for everyone. If decorated properly, will a 55 be fine for one jack dempsey? I keep hearing mixed things about this.

EBJD are "natural" we've just bred specifically to get more of them. He's still really small, give him/her more time. also be carefully about the frozen meat feeding. I did that a lot and now I'm having to starve them to get them to touch the pellets at all. =S. He will be fine in a 55. I have my 6" in with 2 other fish in my 55 but they will need a bigger tank in the future.

Count your blessings. If you put a real pkant in there, she'll hide behind it until she figures out it can be uprooted or torn up.:p

I think my JD and EBJD are totally irregular. My JD is a wimp and my EBJD is a bully. Neither of them touch my live plants (maybe nibble them cuz I can't seem to starve them out for pellets).
