gman said:Nice list but i think a few of the sizes are pretty understated. Ive seen clown/royal knifes in the 30" range and i have seen an electric eel well over 6' long. Aba Aba also get more in the 5' range.
Keep in mind also, that these are recoreded maximum sizes in the wild..
Fish in Captivity will often times either grow larger or smaller than they would in their natural habitat.. This is due to stress, competition, and dietary involvement made by the fish keepers themselves.
For example, Silver Arowanas will usually only reach 36-40" in captivity, while they will reach 48-52" in the wild.. I would say this is definately due to lack of swimming space and the change in diet. On the other hand, when fish like Clown Knives are placed into a large aquarium, with no stress levels and little competition for food, and fed a high protein diet, they will probably reach their maximum potential size. I could see that in their natural habitat, Clown Knives would have some stiff competition for food, especially high in protein..
I would say Aba Abas and Electric Eels don't have alot of scientific accounts in the wild, due to the fact of losing a limb or being zapped pretty bad!
