hey ya he now takes freshly killed feeder guppies (no worries, they are quarantined, medicated, and disease free) but thats all I've seen him take, and I know for a fact the LFS I bought him from wasn't feeding him live so I have no idea, guess i'll call them and ask what they feed their polys because he doesn't take anything but live/fresh prepped feeders.

View attachment 1042093Agreed with the nocturnal feeding. I recently picked up a 4 incher as well (still has external gills) but it started eating small fish filet right away then moved to NLS pellet within the week.

For mine the key was letting food fall where there was plenty of cover at lights out. Once s/he recognized the smell as food and had eaten for a few days in a row I fed with lights on from that point forward.

that looks EXACTLY like my lap haha, ya I've noticed he is way more active at night, but I've left pellets, tilapia fillet, and blood worms over night next to him/her with no effect. today I dropped a recently killed guppy next to my lap, lights on, and watched him/her take it within 30 seconds of it hitting the bottom so I'm glad its eating but I can't imagine he was eating live bfore I got him.

Does not look like a lap... More like cb AnsorgiiXEndli...

really? you think that looks more like an endli? the lfs I bought from had it labelled a koliba which I googled as a lap, but others have told me it was a nigerian lap instead, and it looks just like ocellatus' bichir exactly. I'm not arguing your point, I'm just curious if my bichir isn't a lap haha

Good news. Now you'll be able to transition to other foods without worrying too much about his health.

I purchased this little guy at an Edmonton fish store, from a tank labelled as "Guinean bichirs". Dorsal finlet count seems consistent with lapradei but time will tell. So far an excellent fish. Buried himself in the sand a few times and has interesting markings.

ya mine seems to be getting more personable, hes coming out during the day more now. He also took tilapia last night for me (granted I had to drop it on his head) but he didn't spit it so big plus there haha.
