New Leo Baby

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Congratulations on your birth. I have seen a lot of newborn leos, and have never seen one born with such a large yok sac. I'd keep a close eye on it and look for signs of injury or infection. The yolk sac gives a quick route for bacteria to invade internally and cause infection. You may be better off keeping it in a bare bottom tank. The ray will probably not be as comfortable so it is a bit of a trade off, but you should be able to keep it cleaner. I'd love to know how long it takes to absorb a yolk sac that big.

Good luck.

SWEET!!!!!

Congrats daddy...

Yeah, I have had these leos for about 8 years & they have had several still borns, but no live babies.... Its funny I had to seperate my motoros becuse they were having way too many babies...

I was excited to get that pic because it came out soo well. Everyone thinks that is his clasper (if you know what I mean)... I have had tons of babies & have also never seen such a large yok, but I am not worried enough to put the ray on zero substrate. I will see if I can get picks of the yok size as the days go on...

Thats great, it looks like it has some nice spotting too. Any pics of the adults?

Alex

Yeah I will get a pic of the mother & father.
It is funny hoe things work out, just a few weeks ago I lost several large (20inch) leos & motoro's because my UV blew out & I got some weird bacterial infection that destroyed a few rays.... I have no idea what the bacteria was & I am still searching. It was such a huge bummer.... I have had rays for 15 years & only had one death.... I had nitrofurazone in my big tank & I was injecting the sick rays with fortaz twice a day, man what a pain! I have many thanks to Richard Ross for helping out (like he always does).. Anyway after all that I realized that one of my three remaining leos was pregnant & a few weeks later this happens. It keeps your spirits up! The ONLY sick ray to pull through was my only male motoro...
