NLS has always been my food of choice. Wide selection and high quality. I just wish they made a wafer for 100% herbivores like the Omega One Veggie Rounds.

Cheeseboy - NLS does have a wafer, NLS H20 Stable wafers.

It's not designed to be for 100% herbivores, as there are very few species on the planet that would be considered 100% herbivores. Even those species classified as strict herbivores are typically opportunistic feeders, and will consume food stuffs that are found within the algae beds, seaweed, etc. Without the protein & fatty acids from zoo-plankton, insect nymphs, larvae, snails, mites, and various micro-organisms, most herbivores would not survive. In the wild herbivores consume these proteins & fats daily, in captivity the greens that most people offer their fish are lacking in these natural food stuffs.

The creator of NLS (Pablo Tepoot) refuses to make such a food (excessive plant matter) as he knows that if that type of food was offered as the main staple to a fish, most fish in captivity would suffer health issues, and many would eventually die prematurely. Pablo has kept, and raised, millions of herbivores over the past 40 or so odd years, his philosophy is based on hands on experience, not slick marketing hype.

Excessive plant matter, such as kelp, will cause the food to pass very swiftly through the digestive system of most fish, including herbivores, which means most of the nutrients will not have had a chance to be assimilated by the fish.

All NLS formulas, including the H20 wafers, have been carefully balanced to meet the nutrient requirements of all fish kept in captivity. The wafers contain algae meal (made up from kelp, seaweed, and several forms of micro algae) as well as spirulina, and a vegetable & fruit extract. But at the same time the wafers also contain protein & lipids from marine sources, such as herring & krill.

Man cannot live on bread alone, and herbivores cannot live (in captivity) on greens alone. :)

In a word, no.

But the NLS TherA formulas do contain a mega dose of garlic, and can give off a distinct garlic odor if fed exclusively.

Tell me does the NLS stink up the water like the Hikari pellets do? It's awful! :(
Nope ! I have been feeding it exclusively since my first post in this thread and no odor compared to the massivore which was :screwy:

NLS is awesome my bichirs eat it more eager than anything including tilapia filet and they seem to have a ton more energy and slightly better coloring (bare bottom tank)

Well said , I love Pablo's tank too :headbang2 He has saltwater lionfish and all kinds of "Herbivores" thriving on NLS

i bought some thera A+ and will add to the thread if i notice any improvement. i was feeding hikari cichlid gold as the staple but i will use NLS exclusively for the next 2 weeks.
