New light for my GT

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
With GTs, I'd rather use much less light than you would for other fish. Or have them mounted closer to the back of the tank. The green glowing look just doesn't show up under direct cold light. Same thing happens with the 2 different carpintis morphs I've kept. Up close to the front pane of glass and they are electric green. Towards the back of the tank, more blue.

I've found that the All-Glass tubes aren't too bad for general aquarium use.

Oh, and if you have the chance to get some sunshine into your GT tank, get ready for a show. They look spectacular then!

Yeah, GT's are one of those fish that can look totally different with different lighting. I had a 10k/460nm combo before and I didnt like the look, so I changed it up to 18k/460nm and I'm happy now.

Its all about personal preference with lighting and depends on how you want your fish to look. Personally, I like how the blue 'pops' on my fish. And a lot of CA/SA cichlids have some sort of blue or green on them.

I have found, however, that my light setup doesnt work to good with red colors. And, its makes my silver aro looks awesome. The green in his scales and pink on his fins really stands out...

It may just be the photos, but I prefer the old light bulbs.
