Hey folks. Picking up my first caiman lizard tomorrow, a friend is bringing some in. It's one of those farmed ones from Peru. Given the lack of info online about specific conditions, I figured I'd set up for something similar like a Colombian Tegu, but with more water.

I've currently got a 75 set up with a big dish (18"x10"x4") for water, UV bulb, ceramic heat emitter, tank top's partially sealed for humidity's sake. Basking temp's 100.

I didn't know if I should do the full water thing, especially for a new import in case of parasites shedding into the water and re-infecting. I've seen several setups online with just a large dish (plus my LRS has been keeping them like that).

I'm hoping for any tips/info from people with experience?

you getting that from drew?
justin morash is getting some in soon for a bit cheaper, he's been waiting to get his in for months and Ive heard a ton of good stuff about him

but good luck, you'll have a caiman and a caiman lizard

Naw, not from PCP. My friends brought a bunch in recently from Peru. And alas, I am caiman-less. I got a really good offer for my Dwarf from a guy with other caimans (plus he was getting rather big). 44" when we actually measured him.

Steve is gone!?!? Noooooooooooo!!!!!!!!

I know, it was a sad month couple with my snake apocalypse. I either had bad feeders, or I contaminated them somehow when thawing, but I lost all three of my snakes, one of which I've had for 11 years (the other two 6 years) in a week.

sorry about your loss buddy , had abp for over 8 yars and lost it to a mistake on my part a few years back.

anyways plz post pics of the lizard when u can , been wanting some for years but no space for it atm.

Thanks. It was a weird situation. All three wouldn't eat the following week, which I thought was odd, I wondered if the mice smelled bad somehow...then two days later two were dead and the other one lasted 5 days before dying.

damn son, im jealous. caiman lizard will be the next lizard i get.

You folks in the states are lucky, I've seen em on Kingsnake for 400 bucks!

You'll likely be able to use your caiman setup for the caiman lizard once it gets bigger, at least it's my understanding they require somewhat similar setups.
