he looks like he has cloudy eyes in the picture....are they cloudy or is it just a weird illusion??? also looks like he is very very thin. was the fish eating at all at the LFS??? cause i will tell you if the fish had been eating well and was healthy, just 5 days of not eating would not have brought him to that thin of a body weight. chances are he was never in great shape....bad eggs happen (stress from shipping, internal parrasites that cant be seen, and so on) - its up to the LFS to keep from passing that on to the hobbyist. live food would be the trick, if thats not working now - just keep your water in pristeen shape and hope for the best.

Yea, just that one eye has the cloudy eye thing. I have been treating it with melafix since the 2nd or 3rd day. EDIT: I didn't see him eating at the lfs....didn't realize I should have been looking for that at the time.

what about the salt, nitrite, and nitrate??? temperature???

I just checked the salinity, which was at 1.025. I didn't realize it got that high, so I put 2 gallons of fresh in, hopefully that will bring it down a bit. I don't have a kabillion test kits, so thats all I got. Temp is around 80.

i would try to get your nitrate tested.....its just as important. thats the whole reason for water changes, to lower your nitrate level and keep it from getting toxic. he could have gotten a mild bacterial infection (cloudy eye). either he got it from the store, or the water is a lil funky and that hit him hard. you should always try to make sure a saltwater fish is eating before you take it home from the store. some of the ways these things are caught are BAD and you wont know if the fish is truely healthy and stable unless you see it eat. especially with something like a lion, which normally only eats live when they first come in. as far as the eye, asuming it isnt a water quality issue.....that melafix isnt going to do a thing. you need to find Formalin.

Well, now I know about the eating part, kinda wish I had ordered the fish from saltwaterfish.com so I would have a 14 day guarantee, but crap happens...

As far as my nitrates being high from not enough water changes, I doubt this is the case. Recently, due to algae spreading on some of my liverock, I've changed the water about every 5 days or so.

Anyways, thanks for the info, where can I find Formalin? From the sound of it, seems like it may or may not be sold at pet shops.

we sell it at the store i work at.......most box retail stores prolly don't have it. but if you have a good LFS nearby they should have it.

Went in to the local pet store today. They fed me some BS about how they only sometimes guarantee their fish for 2 days blah blah its probably your tank. They also said that they only sell fish if they have seen them eat. Funny how back when I had a freshwater tank they sold me one straight out of the box from the wholesaler....
Regardless, they have lost my business, so anyone in ID area should watch out when buying fish (esp. expensive ones!) at Pets are People Too in Moscow.
