Unfortunately, I had to make the hard decision to euthanize Tolken, my 13" male midas. He's had an infection of some kind in his "forehead" since Jan/Feb. I've literally spent $1000 CAD on meds from across the border (I'm in Canada, everything is banned here) trying to clear it up and it would get better after weeks of treatment, but come back again no matter what I tried. I'm so bummed, he was my baby and was only 4 years old. The thought of not having a midas - my absolute favourite fish for most of my life - was really depressing. They used to be a dime a dozen locally but have disappeared entirely. The ONLY place I found them that would ship to Canada was in Florida...they only had 8 juveniles available. Well, 8 baby midas arrived here on Wednesday. 5 are the usual solid orange but 3 are the "creamsicle" white/orange mix that I love. I'm so excited to watch these guys grow.

Just a solo male to fill the midas void in my life. It's only a 6ft tank and I have no plans to upgrade to a size that would be suitable for a pair long term.

Nice looking little dude. One of the ones I received looks very much like him.

Sorry about the loss of Tolken. I hope you can get a compatable pair. I know you think you only want a male, but a pair would be so much more rewarding. Besides, a six foot tank is plenty large for two adult Midas provided you have adequate filtration and perform regular water changes, which we know you already do😁 I also like the creamsicle color variation the most and wish you the best of luck with your new Midas adventure!

I purchased him as a "red devil" but I'm sticking with midevil only because I don't know the lineage. Thank you

Good luck on getting another show stopper male

I've had dozens of midas over the last 30 years, including breeding pairs. IMO a 6ft tank is not nearly large enough for a pair as adults. The male inevitably kills the female in such a small space, the only way it works long term is with a divider - which I dislike doing. The 125gal I have is only large enough for a solo male and maybe some small tank mates like convicts. A 13" male fills up and occupies the whole space easily, adding a female in a tank that size is not a viable option for my liking and experience. So I don't think I want a solo male - I very much know it ;)

Thanks all :)
