Excuse me but what is a cuddle bone?
Sorry, misspelled it... "Cuttle" bones are actual bones from a "cuttle" fish, they are mainly used for pet birds but work great for inverts such as snails and crays for added calcium in their diet..they will readily consume it...

try and get a blue crayfish so colorful and awesome part for your collection..

I have a white crayfish exactly like urs? Do u know what species it is and where it orginiated?

Hi! I bought my crays before i did any extensive research on them. Keeping is not difficult but if you need detailed info on things like sexing, species identification and other specific requirements i would recommend you visit bluecrayfish.com. I'm still trying to figure out how to sex them. :)

How do you refrain from adding fish to the tank? I like crayfish too (would someday like to own a destructor), but could never devote an entire tank larger than 5g to one.

I don't really keep myself from adding fish from the tank but from past experiences i know that i cannot keep them with any fish i don't want eaten or any fish that will eat them. I previously had them with some fancy goldfish who were pretty good at keeping away from them but the crays are getting bigger and smarter so they started catching the goldfish at night and shredding their fins. I put the goldfish back in the pond and put my colony of fin-nipping Xenotoca eiseni in the 80 (perfect timing cuz it's too cold for them in the pond now anyway). So i have my little colony of X. eiseni and i think 5 x-ray tetras i couldn't keep anywhere else. They're all too fast for the crays. The crays are amusing enough so i don't really get the urge to put anything else in there. ;)

im no expert on crays never had one but what do you feed them
I feed them what i feed all my fish. Kent's Xtreme cichlid pellets, NLS flake, freezedried shrimp, fresh zucchini and lettuce. I'll be adding algae flake to their diet soon to see how it affects their color. They will eat just about anything. I'm surprised they're not eating all the Vallisneria in there, they obliterated the Ludwigia - i totally forgot they were ravenous plant-eaters.

Definitely looking to adding some blues, just want to make sure they're the same species as I believe both P. clarkii and P. alleni both have blue, white and red color morphs and I would like to stick to P. clarkii.

i dont understand how you can devote an entire tank to crayfish i mean i love the little guys but wow impressive crays

Straightjacketstar, you inspired me with this setup!

Blue crays are what really got me to like crays, and i've tried keeping them off and on, but now I'm going to dedicate a tank to them.

I got lucky and found an orange and a white clarkii today :D

Sweeeet! Where'd you get your clarkii?

I gotta tell ya, a tank devoted to crays may seem a little wasteful but i really enjoy my crays. The clarkii are always out and about and up to something. The Cherax. quad is very shy but amusing none-the-less when it does come out.
Actually considering the potential size of the C. quads I'm considering turning my 135 into a mega-cray tank. I already got another clarkii, a second C. quad. and 2 new tiger crays. Yep, a mega-cray tank sounds like a good idea to me. :naughty:

Well if youre gonna do that, there is a pet store in riverside that has huuuuuge full grown clarkii for $2

I got my orange from A+ and the white from super pets in rosemead

Sweet. Did A+ used to be Jan's? I got my new orange from there. I got the rest at Pete's Pet Supplies in Lincoln Heights. I found some really nice blue clarkii at The Reef in Anaheim but didn't have money to buy any at the time. I'm gonna want them though. :D
Sunset Tropical Fish has some huge crays for $3 or $4 each. Not sure what they were exactly but i bought one and put it in the 180 with my big midas and catfish. Took 4 days but it got eaten. I thought it may have been a clarkii or alleni. Didn't know how to tell the difference then. Pretty impressive. Can't wait for my whites to get that big!
