New male, what do you think?

Maybe off topic but I have question because I see those tanks a lot. Is that his permanent home? If so why do you keep them in those small tanks with zero gravel, no decor, and a divider?

It is my breeding set up, 130gal maybe small to some, but they have plenty of room. Divider is so they don't kill eachother. No gravel because I find extra food gets hidden in the gravel, this way I can tell when I have over fed and clean thoroughly.

Nice pickup, monster kok on that guy. Is his kok textured?I also like that female. She has a thick body and tight lips. Personally I usually have substrate in my tank for aesthetics, and gives them something to do when in not around, rearranging rocks, digging, etc. True though it also traps dirt and such. I just use a thin siphon to remove poo daily. It usually take a couple if mins that's it. I think it's personal preference substrate wise because I've seen fish thrive both ways substrate or not. Cheers.

Yeah it is textured. I got really lucky with the female, paid less than $5.00. I agree, I have just over 10 tanks up and running so no substrate makes it a bit easier to manage.

Yes, I have a few lava rocks in there that were used in another tank. Will lava rocks have the same effect?

If you have enough filtration then having a bare tank is never an issue. So if have a decent amount of filtration substrate isnt needed. All my tanks are bare and i havent ever had a problem with keeping levels at 0 excluding nitrate. BB will only grow in areas where theres water flow so i wouldnt worry too much, throwing in another blotch of media in the filter should compensate for the missing substrate. nice fh's btw
