Thats a peice of a net. The barb probably got caught in the net as the fish was being netted so they had to cut that peice off as its nearly impossible to get the mesh off the barb once it penetrates.

Ahh. Of course! Thank you for the comment! The seller said it was some sort of protection, but I did not think it would give much protection as the barb is not covered well by the net.

An update on my marble pair. They have grown a lot, especially the female. The male was slightly larger. I tried feeding the female more, and now she is slightly larger. She has grown from 9 to almost 11 inch in two months! The male has big claspers, but can anyone tell me when I can expect the female to be sex ripe?
