Do you use Rena Filstars? If so why not step up to Fluval or Eheim?

Yes I do (because I got them for basically nothing- I don't like them very well)
If I step up I'll get more wet/drys. I just don't like canisters--I don't have any use for them (No planted tanks).

From what you're saying it is a glorified version of the XP3. Operationally it's the same they've just "tweaked" it a little bit. My biggest complaint on the XP3 is that the flow is weak, so if they've taken care of that good on them, but I still wont get one.

What kind of tanks do you have? I use canisters on all of mine and none are planted (except for the one I gave to my sister). That includes discus, a community tank, and an assortment of African cichlid tanks. They are and have always been enough biological for all my needs and are great with mechanical. This is assuming they are setup right. I only use Fluvals and I setup the bottom tray for fine mechanical (course mechanical is taken care of with Fluval's slide in holder for foam). I just cram the bottom tray full of filter floss and fill the rest of the trays with Biomax. This provides crystal clear water with enough biological filtration.

Keep in mind I don't particularly care for the new C-series and will stick with Fluvals, but I do think they are a good step above Filstars.

i found prices from a site that popped up on a googlesearch.

80-100-130 for the three sizes.

I also found a thread where a guy called them re-branded europe exclusive tetra-tec filters.

A second google found This

Not excatly the same, but yeah. Looks like Rayovac is shutting down Marineland and just branding tetra products with the better name.

I have about every tank that you can think of. the only tank I am happy with that has a canister is a 46.

I keep everything from mollies to tigrinus. Wet/dry is far superior to any canister.
