Hey guys im new here great site btw seems like a good community, anyways I have a question, I purchessed 2 small sunfish today and they dont seem to eat much of anything I give them, I tryed flaked, pellets and even cutt up some small worm, they pick at the flakes but not really eating them like I expected so if i can get some assistance please.

try feeding thm some blood worms if they dont eat right away it might be because they have to get usd to thir new enviroment it could take couple of days or evena weeks but they should start acting normal in a couple of days. what size tank do you have?

You have to buy your natives???

Anywho, Try various frozen foods, bloodworms, mysis, etc. They will eat when they get hungry enough. Im surprised they eat flake at all.

If you just got them don't worry they are just getting adjusted and could take a day or a couple of weeks, sounds like they are store raised if they are only eating flake which makes it easier for you, what kind of sunnies are they?Welcome to MFK.

Wow somebody else who has sunfish eating flake.. well kind off. Welcome to mfk! And it may take a while to get them used to their new environment... mine were wild caught and learned to eat flake by watching the feeders I had in their quarantine tank... they hit the flakes just as hard as they hit my bait when I caught them.. kinda cool to watch. Hope you enjoy your natives as much as I do!

Just a side note of another good food to get them eating is earthworms

Sorry just re-read your post and saw you tried worms... my fault

"Starving" them can help them onto it...I have a buddy who has his sunfish eating newlife spectrum. I just got my native onto it yesterday, his first day in the tank!

Its good stuff. Aside from that its pretty easy to start your own "bloodworm culture" and he also greedily accepted that almost as soon as the lights came on. :D GL...post pics

this is prob a dumb question but what are bloodworms, i have nightcrawlers i have been feeding them which they dont eat, but are the blood worms the smaller white worms?

blood worms are small redish worms they live in ponds and lakes but you can get them at your lfs frozen to be safe
