I'm building a 96x48 and don't plan on it being good for more than a few years for mine

Well obviously the fish should be kept in a 1000 gallon + pond but I was only referring to the tank he said he was getting. 36" is better than 30".

I'm still looking around for tanks. The 96x30x30 is the largest one I have found so far on craigslist etc that's in my price range :) I'll keep a look out for 36" or better. Thanks for the advice.

yeah it's better but his fish will likely be unable to turn around in the new tank in a couple years whether it's 30 or 36"

so my initial assesment was wrong. You DO haev a hybrid. Expect massive growth out of him as soon as he hits the new tank. Mine are already that size in under a year with a similarly dimensioned tank. You need to already eb lookign for a new tank that is atleast 5' wide now or a new home.

Your in Florida Just build a pond for this guy... You will not find a tank that will suit him for life. Also could try and give it to the Tampa Aquarium They need better FW fish. If you need pond instructions or ideas just pm me. A pond will be much cheaper then your tank and you can still see that big boy roaming around. Mabey if your lucky he will get big enough to swallow you.. lol. Good Luck!!!

You spraypaint pvc black or use solar pannels that's why I said in earlyier post to pm me for detailes...

Indoor pond would be nice. Even if you just get a 6' or so cattle trough really cheap that will give you a few more years enjoyment out of this fish while deciding what to do next. I have built one into an insulated pond with a lid before and the heater barely had to run to keep it at 82 f. I also build a custom biotower out of a 30 gal drum with two fx5s as prefilters that the outlets ran into the top of the barrel which was stuffed with pot scrubbies to make it a wet dry. The water exited the bottom in a down spout that went into the pond ultra air injection lol. It works and that barrel filter plus pond was ultra cheap compared to an aquarium the same size. My cats grew like mad in it. I set up a second one that I kept just the hybrid in as he killed every other catfish I put in the tank with him. Granted this will still not do for life, but will work for several years while you work on an upgrade. I was using it while I was building a 4000 gal tank. :) welcome to MFK and everyone else play nice and don't flame, he is here to learn just like the rest of us!!! :) catfish rule!!!

btw that is my hybrid in my avatar waiting to be moved in a 50 gal rubbermaid tub lol.
