I talked to a swimming pool supplier yesterday and they looked at me like I had lost my mind when I mentioned a swimming pool filter for an aquarium. Then they realized I was a potential customer and they re-assured me that it would work great even though they had never heard of anyone using a filter this way.
I will be glad to supply pictures as soon as I get started, please keep in mind that this tank will be in a house that is getting the concrete forms pulled off the basement walls today.
You might wanna post questions about the filter in the Setup and Filtration section since you'd get a quicker response that way. Look in the DIY section for ideas, there's been a lot of posts for filtration on big tanks.
I don't know one bit about pool filters, but my husband, whose also a member on here, said in general they're not really worth it because they're huge for the amount of water they actually flow and there's much better filtration you can get for the cost. When we build our 6,000g tank we're going to build our own filtration but I'm not sure exactly what we're going to do yet, so I'm sorry I can't be of more help in the DIY department

I'm thinking you'd be better off buying your own pump and building your own wet/dry system since that's what I see the majority of people on here doing for tanks of your size. Another option is to go with a pond filter rated for or over the volume of your tank.
