New Midas

Oddly though, I put a smaller male Flowerhorn of mine in the tank and the Midas chased it away and I also put a female Parrot in the tank which the Midas lightly pecks at the side of her. The female Parrot shows signs that she wants to breed with the Midas so I am confused.

it is a female...... i dont think your fish will want to breed if you just put them in the tank .... it takes time for them to pair up..... as for community it all depends on the devil if it decides it doesnt want tank mates then it could turn out ugly... but the best thing you can do is intriduce her into a large established tank....

Not true, I could drop a mature female in with a male or vice versa and within minutes they will pair up.

yea the tanks gotta be large, but they're smart. I had two male midas in a community tank for a time... The trick I devised was to put a piece of eggcrate divider in one corner with a small hidden gap between it, then introduced each midas on either side of the eggcrate. The male on the outside of the eggcrate didn't figure out that there was a way to get in, but the one on the inside figured out how to get out...
so one midas made his home on the inside and the other midas never bothered him.

IDk if that helps but thats my exp with keeping midas community-wise.
They usually want to be the dominant one so if tank space is not an issue the main problems you run into are when you introduce other similarly coloured fish to the tank, or other midas

oh yeah in that tank there were several jack dempsies and a whole mess of convicts. there were enough hiding spaces so i didn't have many problems with agression until i ended up with a ton of convict babies (two pairs formed).
But the devil on the outside of the eggcrate was assuredly the dominant fish, next being the largest dempsey

i highly doubt this as some fish dont like other fish like midas they will show signs of aggression to the ones introduced... Some fish also take time to choose their mates... i currently have a midas paired up with a xiloaensis and it took a month to a pair up and a little over a month for them to succesfully spawn.... Im not trying to be rude this is just my expierence with breeding midas...

While I am not doubting that some take time to pair, Synspilum is great example of that. And if the fish are not mature then yes it will take time for them pair and long to spawn.

Added my last Midevil in with a female and with a couple days I had eggs.
