So it's more for community fish in the future but I got a pretty cool piece of wood today at a lfs. I threw it in a bath tub and a surprising amount of tannins were released.

Find a way to boil it. I have a nice wood log cave. No matter how much I boil it, tannin will still keep on coming out

I've had large-ish pieces of driftwood take months before they stopped leeching tannins...

It definatley takes awhile the bigger/thicker the piece to soak. Personally I like the tannins the wood releases into the tank. It's not harmful to the fish; actually depending on the species it might even make the certain species of fish spawn...

I soaked my first piece in a bucket of warm water that I changed a few times a day for a week. That got the majority of the tannis out but it was only a midsize piece that started out in a 55 gal. The tank was unheated which may have helped me though.
