The Channa Barca always seems more territorial after water change, he started to check out the ST and then started chasing it. Barca got poked by one of the ST's spine, serve him right! A small group of Barilius Sp. (Hillstream Trout), one got whacked by the ST when they were first introduced into the tank.

Does anybody go for fish collecting trips? Here are pictures of my recent trip with my long time buddy Mike. We use both nets and line to collect the fishes. The interesting thing about the recent collection was that the half beaks we collected gave birth to babies the next day, guess what? The small ones have no beaks.

Hi there Sugo, that's a great collection! You got some pretty cool stuff. There are farms in Indonesia that have rare stuff. Recently one of my buyers forwarded me a list of fish available, platinum birchir was one of them, there is also a golden cuban gar. For me, I prefer fish in their natural colors, so those like albinos, leucistic, or platinum I tend to stay away from them, but that is not to say that I will never keep them. If I do, I guess I would start a tank just to keep fishes like that. Love your collection dude!

Thx man still a far cry from ur collection tough hehehhee. I was like tht too for along time as i see no point in paying overpriced endlis juat bcoz they have an unusual color. but once i saw the real thing i kinda completely fell in love wit it. the golden cuban gar tht is 60cm? the price on tht fish is mindblowing huh hahahaha. if u ever come down to indo n u wanna see some of the places where they have great fishes let me know ill show u arnd.

cheers mate.

Yup, mindblowing price, I guess we're talking about the same fishes then. That means I have seen your platinum birchir too, such a small world!

Hahaha those kind of fishes given their sizes and rarity we are definitely talking bout the same fish. these hobby is gettin expensive ahahahaha but damn well worth it. i see that you are friend with amidaee he got a very nice collection of fishes too. i checked his website its amazing. I guess singapore is quitely gathering al the underwater 'treasure' of asia hahahaha.

wow these pictures are all truly amazing! Impressive! Im so jealous... I envy anyone who can afford this hobby to the fullest potential! Im worried about if a fish dies or a light bulb burns out, if I'd be able to afford to buy a new one lol It is my dream to work at or even own a fish hatchery, and aquaculture and marine biology are two of my three favorite subjects... English Literature being my first! How can someone like me get into the fish hatchery or some type of fish jobs? Careers, I mean? I see you have bins and little holding tanks/ponds for fish, and thats so intriguing! I want to do this stuff so bad. Fill me in, please!

Medication, is next. I have had my fair share of fish problems through the years of keeping various fishes, I have kept kois for a long time. One of the strangest treatment I have done is using Dettol (disinfectant fluid), to bath kois in, to get rid of gill flukes. Never tried on Monster fishes and don’t recommend. Today, I am going to share the kind of medication that works for me and is so far safe for my fishes. After kinda organizing the kind of medications I have, they fall into four brands, the first is by API, I use their salt on a regular basis to keep my salt level in my tanks at 0.05. I am a firm believer of salt as a treatment and preventive agent ( I guess it’s a habit from my goldfish and koi days). Usually when I first purchase and transport a new fish, I would put them in my quarantine glass or fiberglass tank. Usually there will be damages to the fish, due to struggling during capture and transport. My first line of defence is always salt. If the injury are more serious, i.e. really bad torn fins and open wounds, I will use Melafix. Melafix is also amazing on Rays, especially those that have very bad injuries due to mating. They recover quite fast from it, when you use Melafix. Pimafix, is only used when there are fungal infections, rays seem to respond well to this too.The second group of medication that I use, is a brand call Doctor Aqua, it seems that only one LFS in Singapore carry this (Tiong Bahru Wuhu) The external parasite is colorless and works powerfully against anchor worms and lice (very safe with rays and all the fishes I have kept). The Ich cure is also very good, but it is blue in color, so your tank becomes like totally black out in the first 24 hours of medication and becomes lighter and lighter blue over the next week or so, but it really works (doesn’t harm rays also) Third group is from Ocean Free, my favorite is the O anchor worm and fish lice, although it cloud your water abit, water becomes clear the next day. It is very effective for gill fluke (safe with rays). My ST is always susceptible to gill problems, especially if you have live feeders. ST will consistently rub themselves against rough surfaces when they are infested. For anchor worm and lice you can see them, for gill fluke you can’t. ST are also susceptible to Ich, which seems to infest themselves below the skin and appears like pimples. O disease, which is also a Ocean Free product, is OK to use for a preventive measure, especially with intro of new fishes, but I feel it is too mild for more serious cases. As a matter of fact, rays and aros seem to be cool with all the medication used here.
