I have known about this species for a while, however I had never seen one for sale. Then last Tuesday a local shop had a small group for sale. I picked up the biggest and he is now living in my 75 gallon grow out tank with a small Silver Arowana and Tiger Datnoid. Sorry no pictures tonight however I ran a google search and here are some pictures of adults. They grow big and for the most part are blind nocturnal hunters. To the best of my knowledge they hunt with their lateral line and an electric organ:grinno:.

It turns out the family Morymyidae is related to Arowanas. They are both in the Order of Osteoglossiformes. The species common name is Cornish Jack Mormyid.

my Aba aba has a similar mouth. That is a cool fish. I wonder if it's as aggressive as an Aba? If it is you will know by tomorrow morning :)

Post up some pics!

Right LOL! I just checked on him and he is just slowly checking out the tank and is hang out in an area near the Datnoid. I'm picking up some 1 and 3/4 inch PVC pipe tomorrow to allow him to sleep undisturbed during the day.

I love that video! Now I want one, or a whole pack! :)

X2! I did some research and it seems that if Cornish Jack Mormids are kept together in captivity they tear each other apart. When I have got that 5000 gallon tank I have been looking towards buying I may have to give it a go though (under supervision).

Those are awesome! Do all mormyrids get to be like this ? Just curious how much yours was ?

There are only three Mormyrids that grow large and are predatory to the best of my knowledge. Aba Ana Knifes, Cornish Jacks Morymids, and a third species that is similar to Cornish Jacks.

I had to move the Datnoid this morning. He was nipping at the Cornish Jack a bit.
