New "Monster" Setup! (Pictures) 56k.... go take a bath.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks guys! These have been a long time in the making! I filled up one tank thus far and it's solid! Haven't filled up the other ones since I want to be home should something happen. Besides, this thing called "Work" is keeping me from working on the tanks..... still planning my filtration.

That is a GREAAATTT idea Egon! You just saved me from drilling unnecessary holes and saving money on additional bulkheads! Do you have pictures of you sump system? Size of tank, etc?

I got the idea from "The Fish Guy" he's mostly on the Cichlid Forum. I just paged through his 750 gallon build but all the pictures are gone. You might PM him for the drawing he had to explain his 25% water change system. I'm on a long business trip at the moment or I would just take some pictures of mine. I'm sure you want this info ASAP. I have a 360 with 3/4 inch acrylic so any way to avoid drilling that monster was good with me! The guy is a genius, drop him a line and he will help you out. Cheers!

Also if you drain out side through a wall or something just "T" into that line to avoid drilling more holes into your house. I just drain one tank at a time, I have 4 total on one line. The used fish water is great for my wifes roses :)
Cheers :)

Egon.... did you just use a standard keyhole bit? How big is your tank to require 2 - 2" Drains? Individual sumps per tank or all on one system? I'll contact the guy on the other forum and will wait for your pics (when you get home that is). Thanks again.

Did I say 2" drains? I have a 1.5" drain going to the back yard. My large tank (360) has two 1.5 bulk heads set at about 1/4 of the tank height below the water surface. These drain into a 55 sump. One of these also has a "T" going to the back yard drain. This is very hard to explain with out a pic, sorry. Water change time I turn off my return pump in the sump and open the "T" ball valve and 10 minutes or so 25% of the water is out of my tank. I went with 1.5" because I already had the hole saw, most likely a little overkill! But it's fun.

I have three 125's that also drain into this system but they use 3/4 drain lines. I just drilled a 3/4" hole into the 1.5" drain line. I drain one tank at a time so I don't max out the system. I suppose I could drain 2 of the 125's at one time with out any issues?

I used the standard HD orange colored hole saw for cutting through the house wall and the acrylic tank. The 125's are predrilled glass tanks so that was easy.

Hope this helps. It's a great system and my wife is happy, seems the roses love the fish water and she was going to water them anyway so basicly the water she was going to use for the roses I use in the fish tanks. win/win
