I noticed my ray is only sucking the juice out of the earthworm, is that possible?

Possible but do not know why.

Keep the water changes up and keep offering food, If it is showing interest then I expect it will get there.

Keep testing the water too

You might want to look out for some garlic based food as well (we can get it frozen mixed with krill here) as this can help build appetite.

Keep trying lots of different foods and do not let it fixate on just one, take out any uneaten food after maybe 15 mins but try not to disturb the ray too much.

Would still keep the lights off for a while and maybe cover part of the tank

Just Toby, thanks. He is eating the earthworms. I guess it took him a couple of days to recognize it as food as you were saying.

I guess i have to get some krill. He doesn't seem to want to eat shrimp at this point. Is it better to start off with frozen or dry krill?

sometimes it just takes them a few tries to notice the food.
you can buy liquid garlic like seachem garlic guard or even crush up some garlic and mix it with new foods in a mug for them (hope your gf doesn't drink from the mug without realiziing :P )

i'm still trying to get mine to wean onto pellets, but they are very picky about their foods and earthworms become somewhat of an addiction for them. much better nutritionally than blood worms and ghost shrimp though, so at least you've got that going in your favor.

good luck :)

Heretic, Is the garlic for thier metabolism or do they just love garlic?

My ray is eating whole worms now.

Update:

My ray is eating like a horse! Well the earthworms anyway .. which is fine cuz i wanted to get him started ..

Thanks everyone!!

Lolz people say that it is expensive to buy food, but what they don't know u get a big tub of good fertilized dirt and stick ur worms in it. Get a worm and chop it in half. Each half will grow a new body. They can regenerate only halves tho. If u hack it up :( nope. Easy cheap and free after a while. Careful not too chop them too often tho. I chop 5 worms once a week. Also check if the bodies are growing back. Chop most of the worms wen u first buy them and then after about a week put ur hand in and see if u still got an halves. Earthworms only (night crawlers)
