New Native Tank!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Went back to the river to collect more shiners (lost most of them in the holding tank) and replenished the numbers. As a bonus, I caught what I thought was a 1.25" margined madtom and added it to the tank. While trying to determine if it was, and not just another tadpole tom, I learned it was actually a yellow bullhead fry... :wall: Hopefully I see it again to remove it before it gets big enough to eat everything!

Went out fishing on the river and caught my first dollar sunfish (or first I recognized as a dollar)!

The pickerel is gone... it grew quickly (.75" in a month!) and started picking off topminnows. I knew it would be going after the smallest bluespot soon. I transferred it to the 10g "food" tank and was going to try to give him away here, but he was floating in the morning.

Update?? Love the tank. Been really thinking about this type of tank. Makes water changes easy and no heater to mess with.

I’ve always wanted to have a school of sunfish in my 120g but that can wait half a decade or so until my current fish live out their lives lol

Things have been stable. The dollar rules the tank but hasnt been overly violent to the bluespots. The madtom and spots are growing. Water changes are actually slightly more difficult because i want to keep my tannins. I change about 30%/wk and have to add oak leaf tea i brewed each time. Definitely pull the trigger on sunfish when you can. They are just as personable as the big cichlids.

I actually did add a heater. I am going to try and replicate the temperature of the river the best i can through the seasons.
