new odysea fixture!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The bulbs are crap, but I grew plants like mad with one of their fixtures.

Two other friends have used their fixtures on planted tanks as well with great results.

Another is using MH on a planted tank with...great results.

And three others are using their lights with corals with...great results.

Some corals didnt have the best colors, but that is related to bulb quality I feel.

For a softie tank, they werent losing anything compared to other companies.

No PAR testing, but I might run a thread on it on R2R. Might get flamed for using their fixtures, but I have already seen their PC, T5, and MH work...so thats all that matters to me.

That all sounds good to me. I figured the bulbs sucked, but for how unbelievably cheap they are I thought I would ask if they work.

Do you feel putting other bulbs in their fixture is the better way to go? Or with a softie tank, it wouldn't be worth the money?

Oh, and I can't wait to get back from Colorado to get over to SP.

just ordered mine and will also be replacing the power compacts as well. That seems to be the new hype about these lights is that the actinics arent "true" actinics.
yea they def are not.
but i got my 48 in fixture for 280 from aquatraders.
so after getting the best bulbs i could find which was xm halides and corallife PCs i spent about 500 on the fixture. which is what i was goin to pay for a 4 bulb t5 fixture. so i am very happy with my results.
first day of full cycle was yesterday and it turned out great. with my house at 77 and the MHs on from 6pm-10pm my tank only got to 79 degrees :) so i am very pleased with that. the fixture did make my apartment a few degrees warmer but its winter so im fine with that.
the leds on this fixture are amazing. and the stock halide bulbs were actually pretty good. the only prob i have had with this fixture it the stock PCs they were almost green looking. other than that its sturdy easy to use and maintain. the legs worked perfect on my 90 bowfront and they are very sturdy, i can shake the fixture and the tank moves. i love that each row of pcs are on there own switch and that the fan and leds are on there own switch too. all around i give it a B+ of course im no fixture expert but its seems great to me. if you have any questions about it i am more than willing to answer them.
thanks fleshy for keeping the thread alive also :headbang2
ps. do you think i should remove the glass shield from the halides if i have glass lids on the tank? im not sure if it would make a diff or not

No, I dont think you should.

Most of the glass shields on the MH actually have UV filters on them, which is what prevents them from burning your eyes when you look at them, so keep those badboys on! :D

Glad to hear that the fixture worked out well for you.

My biggest qualm with AT is that their reflectors are poohy. No good.

Other than that, whatever, its still probably worth the price.

Now that that has been said though, they got rid of their $99 free shipping 150w MH with T5 atinic pendant, which I was going to use in my new 125g lighting fixture hood.

This means that I will soon be a www.fishneedit.com guy, because they still sell pendants that are cheaper than AT's at this point. Little pricier, but now an American will be taking my money I guess. That I am fine with.

I am now the proud owner of two of these fixtures:

Im not done complaining that it cost me $100 more, and that I had to pay shipping, and that it doesnt come with T5 for atinics, but...at least now I will see if these guys are legit.

those look nice man! let us know how those guys work out.
all my corals are loving this light. my big toad stool is trying to get used to it still, but i hope he gets his pink color back. my fiji leather is gettin its green back already and my pink zoas are happy as can be. did you ever send me pics of some of your corals fleshy?
