NEW Odyssea filter rivals Fluval fx5 - MUCH cheaper!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
However, I still think the best is to DIY a sump. A few plastic tote containers, some plumbing, and a Mag pump, and you have something that will beat the tar out of any of these little wimpy canisters. Plus, if you design it correctly, the ease of maintenence is absolutely unparalleled.
.

+1. I've pretty much written canister filters off as worthless. For tanks smaller than 75g, I'll use an AquaClear hang-on. Anything bigger and I'll go with a sump. Much easier and cheaper.

By the way that $200 fluval (if you find it that cheap) + media (that is more than $30 btw unless just mech) is still $75+ more to buy

Not sure how you're figuring that. Your math is off.

That Odyssea is $150 + $30 = $180 BEFORE shipping. The $30 charge is for oversized shipping and you have to add that in to the cost. If you don't get free shipping, add shipping on to that as well.

You can find FX5's for $200 shipped to your house. If you can't, sorry, but that's a reasonable price, and I see them for that and cheaper all the time. If you pay more, that sucks for you. And $30 for filtration is not out of the question if you set up your filtration correctly. Granted, if you use all eheim media, it's going to cost a lot more. But $30 is definitely reasonable. So that's $230 with everything shipped to your house for a FX5 with media.

That's a $50 difference between a FX5 and this odyssea thing. And that's not including shipping on the Odyssea. If you don't spend an extra $50 with the company selling the Odyssea (you have to buy $200 worth of stuff to get free shipping with them), you're going to be paying shipping as well, and that will just bring the cost difference closer.

Again, for $40-50 extra, I'll take the FX5 all day every day.

im gonna buy 1. i love the gph listed. ive seen the 500 and 700 and they move some serious water so im assuming this monster is going to impress me. i wont use anything but matrix in it. as soon as i get it ill do a walk through video, set up, and test gph with media. the problems that the 500 and 700 were having have been fixed according to a few youtube vids ive seen. im not going to use the uv though.

I looked at the filter it is nice looking , cons I see are : no trays or basket, making it harder to easily access media on the bottom without touching everything in your way. The 1400 gph pump will push water to fast thru the 9 watt uv to make it effective. 30 dollor standard shipping fee.
Still a good deal @ 180 if you don't mind these cons. If it had trays I'd buy a few and use them with the uv bulb removed, as I use an alt uv source with an appropriate gph to make it effective

Seedubs where are you getting these prices? I just found the odyssea 500 for $59 and the 700 with uv for $89.95. Ill buy that all day over an fx5

Talking about the 1400. Not the 500 or the 700. The 1400 is $180 before shipping. And as F1 vet just confirmed.....$230 brand new for an fx5 is pretty spot on with media. eBay is a good place to look.
