Hey all, I've just got back into the hobby after a while out. been thinking about what i want to keep for a while a decided to get some polypterus as its a type of fish i haven't really kept before. so went i went to my lfs yesterday and saw a small ornate for sale how could I say no? hes around 3"/ 31/2" currently and has gone into a 75gal growout tank until he gets a bit bigger and can move into my 260 :D here's a couple of pics, also anyone else with any ornates id love to see some bigger specimens! also what do You guys feed to get the best growth rates?

Welcome back ☺ A good pellet and small pieces of Tilapia or shrimp will be fine.

Same here..... massivore/tilapia/e-worms.
 
I like Silversides over Tilapia for small polys if you're not strapped for cash. They're the whole fish so are superior IMO. You have to cut it up in small bits so for one baby poly you won't go through it all that fast. (Freezer section of LFS/Petco or Asian market.)

Most peeps here do tilapia because they have 15 - 567 large lower jaws and feeding Silversides to that crew would be like tossing money in the tank.

Don't forget the nice clean water for growth!
