I get dibs on some fry when you hatch em! :-)

Stick around man!! Someday, there WILL be a COhazard baby ornate super sale! :headbang2 and other species too hopefully.

I want to breed polypterids and develop high quality strains to rival the beautiful pieces over in Japan. That's a long term goal of mine I don't talk about much

Thanks wurm, you have a couple really nice ornates yourself! :)

How do you know what gender it is, is there an easy way to tell? Either way, GORGEOUS fish, hope he does well in your tank!

Thank you! He was very actively exploring the tank last night which is nice since ornates are usually shy, but he started to get aggressive. I can tell the gender by the size of the anal fin. The male has a thicker, wider anal fin, while the females are always thin and slender.

Check out post #19 in this thread: Polypterus Primer

very nice ornate cohazard! great pick up! i'm surprised they can be sexed at this size. maybe they can, its been so long i don't remember when i was able to sex mine :D i know endli usually needs to be >12" to be reliable...smaller for ornate, but apparently i wasn't thinking small enough :D

haha thanks INF! Yeah my two endlis even the one at 9.5 can't be sexed yet.. if I were to guess, female, but that could change.

My platinum sen is slightly smaller than the ornates and I can tell it's definitely male.

I'll see if I can get some good shots of their fins later today. :D
