New oscar and pleco aren't eating?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Brooke, is it a common pleco you have? They are so cool, but I hate when stores sell them. The issue there is those suckers can get well over a foot long and are huge waste producers. They basically need a 55g by themselves and will still have to curl up to spin around.

When oscars are young they are a shoaling fish, and find security in numbers. An oscar alone is a stressful situation, but it will get over it, if it feels safe in the cave, taking the cave out will add more stress.

An oscars in nature shot above, I believe you can see 4, but there were many more.
You tanks will become much too small in a very short time (for both fish) , they grow fast under good conditions, so my suggestion does not mean get more.

Yeah I also read the older an oscar gets the more aggressive so having two adult oscars together can make for bad altercations. Although I have seen it done!

You would have more success if you raise them up together but sometimes it takes 3 because there will always be dominance among the pair or group.

Update: just saw my oscar eat a few bites of an algae pellet! Pleco seems to be coming around and being more active. Oscar is still very timid but I think we're heading in the right direction! Thanks for all of the feedback.
