New Oscar, help needed! (Picture of the problem..)

A Measuring Tablespoon is a set measure. What they mean by "Rounded" has nothing to do with the shape of the spoon, It refers to how much product is over the edge of the spoon. Best way to figure it out is if you take your Spoon and hold it level, the shape of the product and the spoon should match. A Heaping Tablespoon would mean to get as much product into the spoon as possible without any falling off.

I noticed you said you have Oval shaped measuring spoons. So when you look at the spoon with the product in it you should have the shape of an egg, or football. So, to answer your question. Yes, I'd add more salt.

hhmmmm very interesting! I was using an ordinary tablespoon though (Oval shaped like i said).. I didn't heap it, but I tried to make it as level as possible to get the most accurate dosage, which sounds right according to what you are saying (is that correct? im such a noob to this lol)

I will definitely add more salt, I just did a 25 - 35% water change (not EXACTLY sure.. probably like 30%) so I think I may wait to do another water change before adding more salt.. or I could add a little more to replace what was lost in that water change?

Thanks for all the help guys! I appreciate it

HE'S EATING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! could the salt work THAT fast!?!!?!

edit: Ohhh bummer it looks like the two pellets he ate got spit out into trillions of pieces.. will he eat them off the gravel?

The salt will just heal it's wounds. As far as the eating, it could take a few days or up to a week for it to adjust to the new surroundings. Just keep offering some food and eventually it'll start going. Oscars are weird in that regard, they are as moody as a woman lol

ahh kk I wont be too concerned then. But his fins look fine right? besides some bite damage?

Yep, they should heal up just fine. Mine always have when they get nipped and damaged from aggression. As do the wounds and most of the time I don't even use salt because of my Loaches. Clean water alone goes a long way in a properly cycled tank.

good to know! I was kind of hesitant to use the salt with my Goby but they have been found in brackish systems so I thought it can't hurt right lol.

The tank is very well established, it's been running for months upon months so it shouldn't take long for him to heal with all the things I'm doing to help the lil guy.

Plus side! the Goby and him seem to be "friends" now!! no aggression ect!

The Oscars wounds are healing, and they look a lot better. Still a lot of healing to go but that's a given with 4 bite wounds haha.

He seems to be eating though so that's good!

Thanks Gator!

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT

I just did another water change AFTER adding more salt (to equal only 65 out of 68 gallons)

I added bio support to the water change (and the one last night.. not to mention I've used bio support in the tank since it's been running) and a half tablespoon or so of salt so I know I don't have more then the proper dosage, in fact I certainly have less.

I am guessing because I am terrible at math that's why I am doing this in a way where there will always be a little less instead of EXACTLY the right amount.. I could never figure that out lol.

ANNNNNNNNNNNND THE MOMENT OF TRUTH!

I tossed a cut up piece of Pollock in the tank towards my Goby and the Oscar rushed up and snatched it! didn't spit it up either!!!!!

I am so happy!!!!

When I get home from work today I am going to do a final 20% (estimate) water change before resuming my regular weekly water changes!

put some melafix (or make your own for 10.00 with tea tree oil) in the tank and do partial water changes every 2 days he will be just fine. also he may be stressed from the move and goby attack. try offering bloodworms and what he was eating @ previous owners. if that doesnt work hunger has a way of making you eat even if you dont want to lol. he will come around. good luck!

I can pick up Melafix at work today! THANK GAWD I WORK AT A PET STORE LOL

is that okay to use with EDIT: aquarium salt

If i am understanding you correctly, your not using a measuring spoon. Your using a spoon that came with your silverware set. If thats true your not getting a correct dosage either way as their not a set measure. Invest $6.00 in a decent stainless measuring spoon set. Like this Measuring-Spoons-Stainless-Steel.jpg
