firstly sorry i had to make another thread :s but people rarely answer old threads

so i have the same 400 gallon tank (water tank so its cylindrical not as much surface area than u would think)
i've got 3 albino oscars (7-9 inch) (previously 4 traded one for the new tiger oscar) a 12 inch tiger and the new 13 inch one (alot skinnier) although his head is alot smaller so i dont think he was to under fed more so that its another kind. okay so long story short he isnt eating anything for about 36 hours now i know it sounds like short time but oscars are greedy. i tried feeders(i bred them so they're safe) a lizard, normal cichlid food and puppy chow(staple) 3 cichlid food : 1 puppy chow , raw shrimp. and well im a bit worried

Could be a week or two before he's comfy enough to eat. You're alright.

As already stated O's take some time to acclimate to new surroundings so I wouldn't worry too much yet.
As an aside: you feed your fish puppy chow? Do they like it? Whats the nutritional value of it with fish? and can it cause long term problems?
Just curious.

Brand new ADULT Oscars are more picky at first........Young juvenile Oscars are lot more tame and energetic, hence why they jump at you light hungry dogs.the adluts are lot more "wiser........."Try NOT feeding the new guy for a couple days, maybe even a week...........THEN, throw in some pellets, he will eat............

ok thanks everyone i kinda already knew but the other tiger that i "rescued" (got to bg for his house.) ate within a few hours but ill wait it out

umm well honestly they love it they eat it b4 they eat the cichlid pellets. the largest fish farm in my country (trinidad) told me that the only difference they ever noted is that they make a bit more mess(crap) because well its not meant for them. i just mix a handful into my bottle every time i fill it up (i forgot the brand but its a lamb and rice mix that my cousin feeds his 4 month old blue nosed bully(very similar to a pit) so all i can say s that its pretty good stuff.
but yes i was skeptical as well bc lamb is usually not on the menu for amazonian fish. :/ oh well (its about a 3cichlid chow to 1puppy )

Interesting information there, thank you.

no prob.
but my newly introduced O he is now eating but it seems that he keeps spitting out all the food he eats (either whole or in dust sized pieces) he still doesn't eat alot maybe one or two peices every other feeding time.
is this normal?

yeah, that sounds like how my oscars eat.Grab a piece of food, chew, spit it out, grab it again.Looks like they are playing with their food.
