Here's mine, sulking on the gravel, leaning on the stones like life is so hard...

normal. He'll come around. Just dont overfeed trying to get him to come out.

Feed, scoop out uneaten food. repeat.

He'll be a crazy tail wagging freak in no time
Listen to Ang. She has the best looking Oscar that I have ever seen.

He may get used to the water and or decor changes without sulking, mine used to sulk every time I did maintainance for like 2 months, now he only sulks while I'm in the tank. But any time somone he isnt familiar with comes into the room he immediately starts playing dead lol.

I found the Oscar dead at the bottom of the tank today.

Went back to the shop, and noticed the tank I brought him from has a high power internal filter. There were about 16 1.5inch Oscars in a 30ltr tank, and the water was being moved so fast that the little guys where being blown all over the place.

If my Oscar had been swimming in this for a few days before I purchased him, I suspect that is what done him in. What do you guys think?

Hmm. Bump it for ya. Sad to hear about the little guy going. Did the others in the shop look ok and were alive?

Would be odd if that were the cause if others that were still there were fine...your tanks all established and running with good params?

Yeah, the tank is perfectly fine - it has been running for just over 18months. The water parameters are 0.0 Ammonia, 0.0 Nitrite and around 35 Nitrate.

A few of the Oscars in the shop were laying at the bottom on occasion. Then they would get up and move again. A whole bunch of them had difficultly swimming level...they swam around nose up. I thought it was swim bladder trouble, but then they would right themselves and swim perfectly fine again.

Needless to say, I didn't pick up another Oscar.

that sucks he died, but just for future reference, with Os you really want to keep the nitrates at 20 or below as they are really prone to HITH

Unfortunatly Sarah, our tap water has Nitrates of 25. Maybe I shouldn't have an Oscar in the future. Though I have successfully kept Discus in this water.

Scooby, I have around 10x water turn over in my tank too. That's fine. The LFS tank was literally like a whirlpool - the Oscars were going round and round and fighting for the lives just to remain still.
