I recently got a 41 gallon Fluval Osaka tank... this is a 24" long, 17" wide, 24" tall tank, basically a skinny cube.

If you guys don't know what a paludarium is (in that case you probably shouldn't give me any advice :)), here is the basic idea:

Water line only goes up to a certain point, and you plant an above water area above this line.

So, my build idea is for a paludarium for my cory cat breeding group. The background and wood are both from http://www.designsbynature.net.

So, here is a close up, followed by a basic paint outline for what I'm basically considering:

Filter would be an eheim 2215 or similar, they are proven to be good for this type of setup, installing the output above the water line.

So what do you guys think? I've got all kinds of materials to work with. I don't know exactly if or how I want to incorporate a small sloping land portion around the trunk.

Here's the basic type of habitat in the wild these fish would see...

Haha, I just realized the black "platform" line is below the water line. Let's just pretend it's a little bit higher. :D

LOL! An honest mistake

Well I was actually thinking of cutting the trunk right there and making the land portion go around it--hard to explain. But cutting the trunk would give me easy access to any equipment or layout stuff. I could silicone the bottom part to the tank floor, and remove the top as necessary to get in the tank and do maintainence stuff. One of my main concerns is ease of maintainence in this system, as it's very easy to make it really complicated.

Thanks but I need the collective brain power of MFK here! Or else this tank is going to sit dry in the corner of my house for eternity. :D

That's gonna look very cool!

C'mon Clockwork you don't need any advice from here!

You got the concept, the supplies, the experience, pre cycled sand. rocks and filters so stop hanging around here and go do it!

And post pics tonight of the finished product!

Ok you can stop for a short beer break.

Heh, I don't drink. ;)
This project isn't going to be finished tonight, I still have to buy the filter, substrate, choose the plants, let silicone and foam cure, etc.
