new payara

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Focker it's not the same family as payara, unless you mean it's a characin, in which case they are both the same family as piranhas and tetras :D

Freshwater cudas family = Acestrorhynchidae

Payara's family = Cynodontidae

Different families, different fish.

I like them both, but I'm more of an acestro man. I want an acestro as big as the one in the middle.

mine is in a 220 and pretty much just sits right in the middle of the tank. also i thought it was very closely related to the payara. thx for correction sushi

Hi man can you post some pics of your guy and tell what he has been eating , whats the setup, how fast he has grown. I have a few that are at 8 inches, and i think a couple are not eating also, they are in a 120 long. Does yours look for current or hide under plants.

i forgot to awnser ur question about how fast he grew. seems to me like overnight. he went from 3 inches to 7 in i would have to say around 6 months then slowly hit 8 now hes hit a wall.

Focker you have a type of payara, but yours is called a vulpinus :)

HugeGhost the pic you posted with all those big high back payaras, they are the true big ones - they are Armatus. They are the ones that grow to 4 foot in the amazon, and it's an Armatus that "Woodysun-taiwan" has, the legend on this site that has one of the biggest captive payaras.

Hugeghost - the redfin payaras are hydrolycus tatauaia. And the ones with the yellow fin and the kind of dark grey band on the edge of the tail are the armatus.

rite...now....i dun exactly know wat it is......bt juz to sae that their heads are extremely angled.........the lower jaw meets the head in a near 90 degree.....some thing like that anyway....

aquascape is the online fish sponser in the forum. There new Payaras are yellow finned. They just dont look like armatus in the pic, they dont have the arched back, they are 100 each also and 8 to 9 inches! They are very cool looking i might get some knowing they are Armatus.

oh....yea....come to think of it......the dont have arched backs!

The lfs that I was at this past week had both the red fin and the yellow fin. I guess I will have to go back to the lfs and buy them all up!:D Thanks for the info rumblesushi, you truly are a Jedi Master!
