red eye suggests its wild....

gold spangle suggest it could be kelberi

no kelberi pattern on anal fin though

very likely its a mono ....

but nice bass watever it is : )

ocellaris

no, IMO he's an ocell. like this wild caught one. look at the 3rd black marking high on the back, with gold spangling around it. yours looks similar. plus his eyes are red already

it doesnt have red eyes. it has the same colour eyes as my monos like a slight copper colour. plus we DONT HAVE OCCELLARIS in australia.

Are you sure about that?

There was a time when you could confidently say that...there were plenty of PURE monoculus being bred LOCALLY and they were BEAUTIFUL...I don't see it as much anymore unfortunately...

Now times have changed and honestly who knows what has been imported...they all come in as juvies so nobody really knows what they are getting unless the sources are 100% reliable...these fish are bred in mass numbers overseas...they could be hybrids for all we know.

I do not know the history of the fish in question but there is every chance it could be some kind of mixture of mono/ocell if it was imported and not bred locally.

I do see traits of ocell in that fish.

I totally agree with you steve. but its not a pure occel. its eyes are not red, not that that matters hybrid from OS, sure maybe. pure occel NOPE. Like ive said for the past few years, im expecting to see more p bass soon but there has been absolutely no occells shown to me in australia. Every single time ive seen one for sale ive contacted the seller for pics. Every time ive been dissapointed to find out its another mono. All the fish for sale seem to be about the same size so im guessing someone has off loaded a bunch of monos as occells to unsuspecting people and this is whats being passed on. I also see those spangles down the tail an thought hey maybe we have a genuine occel but i doubt it. As you would know occells and monos are very similar almost identical when young, this is no coinsidence that people are saying we have them in oz. You dont hear of kelberi being here or azuls do you? thats because they cant be passed off as something they are not when young. Monos and occells can be.
